2010.04.10 Leaf at Sunrise

The thing I will remember most about this image is the fact that I did the photo processing in the park on a picnic table 5 minutes after taking the shot. That is what I call WORK!

Now, they are all over the road. Dad is pretty excited to be able to go on bike rides with the boys. Next challenge: off road!

2010.04.01 Aidan! Open Your Eyes!

After a long winter and year on the bike with training wheels, we took the boys to the High School track and turned them loose on two wheels with nothing but a prayer and a brain-bucket. They took off like they had done it all before. Nice work boys!

There is a lot of debate about which BBQ is the best in our city. In my opinion, we have so many good places to choose from that you really cant go wrong. It is hard to beat a 'Z' man. But, on the other hand, if you have ever had a burnt ends sandwich from Gates, well you get the idea.

Louis Kahn said that Architecture has existence, but has no presence. Meaning that Architecture is NOT the built thing, but the process of bringing in idea into being - from Silence to Light - through study and visualization. Even so, calling manipulated photographs 'Architecture' may be a stretch - but it is helping Kelly and I to decide what colors we should paint our home. Opinions? Leave a comment!

2010.03.08 Old in the New

Another walk around downtown brought me back to an architectural idea that I have been playing with since graduate school. Tied directly to the idea of sustainability is the idea of using the old to create the new. And while this is merely a visual translation of that idea, it excites me to realize that it is present even when we do not intend it to be.

OK, so this is not the best example of an HDR image. And there is so much potential in this spot that I can't wait to come back. But, the unwritten rule is if you have to pay for a shot, it gets posted. It cost me $38 in the form of a parking ticket to nab this. So please, enjoy.

2010.03.02 Lake in Fog

I am still recovering from the long week at work, so I am digging out some photos from the archive. This was taken last fall on a particularly foggy day at Shawnee Mission Park. The fog, backlit by the sun, was so bright that my LX2 had trouble exposing correctly. The fix for this? Should have shot it in RAW mode. Live and learn.
